It has been said that what one does on New Year’s Day sets the tone for the rest of the year. Consider ringing in the New Year at one of these five unique getaways for New Year’s Eve this year.
With a total of 40 official time zones, Earth will be one huge party hour after hour. Get your new year started off with a bang in one of these exotic places. From a warm climate to a cold one or somewhere in between, this is the year, to begin with, a dream vacation.
1. Tropical, Hawaii
Hawaii is the major location around the globe to ring in the New Year last. The locals take this status seriously and put on a good party all around the Islands. Beachfront fireworks and boat cruises to enjoy the show will be awesome.
Because of their mild winters, it is a popular place for “snowbirds” to escape the cold, so book a room early. If staying on Maui, the best place to see the fireworks launched from the barge is between The Four Seasons and The Grand Wailea Hotel.
If you opt to stay on The Big Island, the major fireworks show will be in the Kailua-Kona area. If you want to see the show in Kauai stay in one of the Kauai rentals while you are there.
4. Music, Vegas
On New Year’s Eve, the normal partying gets revved up another notch in Las Vegas, the party capital of the world. All of the casinos in the town will be celebrating in their own way with class acts.
Nightclubs and music venues will feature top entertainment. Catch a fabulous show by Imagine Dragons at The Joint, Hard Rock Hotel. See over 80,000 fireworks that will launch over The Strip’s major casinos.
2. Winter, Whistler
Christmas and New Year’s Eve is a magical time in Whistler, British Columbia. The skiing and snowboarding are one of the biggest attractions of this mountain paradise. If you are dreaming of a white Christmas and a glittering new year, Whistler is the place to be.
Along with great winter sports, enjoy the Festival of Lights at the Scotia Creek Gallery in Millennium Place. It runs from December 18th to January 7th and features fantastic light and lantern sculptures created by locals.
3. Traditional, NYC
Join the masses on Times Square in New York City which has long been one of the top venues to celebrate the arrival of a new year. Since 1907, the iconic glittering ball has dropped at midnight from the top of One Times Square via a flagpole as a million or more people cheer.
Times Square on NYE is a popular concert venue for celebrity acts as well as an awesome pyrotechnic show. If a crowd that size seems a bit overwhelming, consider booking a boat cruise from the New York Harbor.
5. International, Sydney
Spend NYE in sunny, summer weather. Sydney, Australia is one of the first major cities to ring in the New Year. Boats full of partiers will line the harbor for a giant fireworks extravaganza. Hire a boat and bring along your favorite champagne. Another idea is to take a car hire out to Cockatoo Island. Book a campsite in advance for this moonlight picnic and stay the entire night. If neither of these ideas appeals to you, book a table at one of the city’s waterfront restaurants.
