Amalfi Coast Travel Information

The Amalfi Coast, or Costiera Amalfitana in Italian, is a stretch of coastline on the southern side of the Sorrentine Peninsula of Italy (Province of Salerno), extending from Positano in the west to Vietri sul Mare in the east.The Amalfi Coast (Costiera Amalfitana) is one of Europe’s most breathtaking. Cliffs terraced with scented lemon groves sheer down into sparkling seas; whitewashed villas cling precariously to unforgiving slopes while sea and sky merge in one vast blue horizon.

The Amalfi coast is renowned for its assortment; every town has its own character and attractive sites. The most noticeable places to visit on the Amalfi coast are:

• The Duomo (the cathedral) in Amalfi, and its cloister (Chiostro del Paradiso in Italian)
• The church of Santa Maria Assunta in Positano
• The churches of San Salvatore del Birecto and of Santa Maria Maddalena in Atrani
• Villa Cimbrone and Villa Rufolo in Ravello
• The churches of San Luca and San Gennaro in Praiano and their viewpoints
• The church of San Pancrazio in Conca dei Marini and its viewpoint
• The church of Santa Trofimena and the ancient Roman villa in Minori
• The Fjiord of Furore with the Mulino Cartiera (Paper Mill) and the “Monazzeni” of Anna Magnani & Roberto Rossellini Furore

The best time to visit is in spring or early autumn. In summer the coast’s single road gets very busy and prices are inflated; in winter much of the coast simply shuts down.

Amalfi and the Hotel Santa Caterina can be reached by car by following the A3 motorway in the direction of Salerno and exiting at Vietri sul Mare, from where to follow indications to Amalfi and theAmalfi Coast. Naples Capodichino is the closest airport. The nearest railway station is that of Salerno (25km).

By car from the North: take the A1 motorway as far as Naples and then follow indications for the A3 Salerno-Reggio Calabria motorway. By car from the South: From the A3 Reggio Calabria – Salerno motorway, exit at Salerno; follow indications for the Amalfi Coast, Amalfi and Praiano. Alternatively, from Salerno, take the S.S.163 Amalfitana highroad.

Locanda degli Agrumi (Guest Houses)

Locanda degli Agrumi is an intimate little guest house situated on the immediate outskirts of the seaside town of Conca dei Marini, on the Amalfi Coast. The historic fishing harbor is now one of the area’s most popular bathing resorts. The hotel is located exactly half way between the celebrated towns ofAmalfi and Positano. Praiano, Furore, Atrani and Ravello are all within easy reach of the hotel andMaiori, Minori, and Vietri sul Mare are only a few kilometers further away.
