Things to Do in Big Bear in Winter
In the winter, Skiing and snowboarding are the big attractions. With an annual snowfall of more than 100 inches of fresh powder and a nearly endless supply of California sunshine, this is the best place close to LA to hit the slopes.
Bear Mountain Ski Resort is a snowboarding hub with over 17 miles of runs, a full snowboard terrain park, a half pipe, and Southern California’s only super pipe.
Snowboarders and skiers alike will also love Snow Summit, which is a more family-oriented resort. Its trails offer a wide range of difficulty, from the Fun Zone which is set up for people just trying to get their balance to the Ego Trip terrain parks that are geared for people good enough to catch some air.
Big Bear is also a wonderful place to try your hand at cross-country skiing or snowshoeing. There are beginner tours available, and you can rent equipment right on-site. You will find trails that are groomed and easy to follow, as well as off-trail areas that are nice to explore. There’s also a snack bar, ready with hot chocolate when you need it.
